Project Details

Located in the newly developed Palm Bluffs Business District, this new dealership was a much welcomed expansion for Mercedes Benz of Fresno. With architectural cues following the manufacturer’s German roots, the new showroom uses an expansive array of glass, aluminum accents, and granite to showcase the exquisite style of Mercedes Benz. The 20,000 sq. ft. showroom and administration building are framed using a steel superstructure with an engineered wood roof and floor framing system. A hidden rigid frame stabilizes the front glass wall of the showroom while shear walls stabilize the remaining portion of the structure.

Seamlessly extended from the back of the administration building is the 35,000 sq. ft. service department. Tilt-up exterior walls were utilized to efficiently provide support to the long-span pre-cast concrete roof joist which provide an open floor plan below and roof-top parking above. Taking advantage of the service department’s rigid system, lateral load collectors from the administration wing were tied into the service department’s shear walls and roof diaphragm to ensure the two structures of different materials performed as one under lateral loads.

This experience was gained as an Associate of another firm in direct control of structural design and construction administration from start to finish.
